The symptoms of these reactions can be any combination of red itchy rash with blisters and peel of the skin and /or of the lips, eyes, mouth, nasal passages or genitals. It often goes with fever, chills, headache, cough, body aches or joint pain. You may have less or dark urine, yellow skin or eyes, symptoms of stroke including loss of feeling or movement on one side of the body, especially with a severe headache, symptoms of heart problems like chest pain and shortness of breath. These are not all the possible side effects of Uloric. In case of any unexpected effect, contact your doctor immediately.

When Should You Not Take Uloric?

You should not take Uloric if you:
  • Are allergic to febuxostat or other ingredients of the drug
  • Have heart problems such as heart attack or have had a heart failure or stroke
  • Have secondary hyperuricemia (increased uric acid levels due to another condition)
  • Have greatly increased the rate of urate formation (such as malignant disease and its treatment, Lesch-Nyhan syndrome)
  • Have rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Uloric contains lactose as one of its non-medicinal ingredients
  • Are taking azathioprine and mercaptopurine
It is not known if Uloric is safe and effective in children under 18 years of age.

What Should You Tell Your Doctor Before Taking Uloric?

Before taking Uloric, inform your doctor if you:
  • Are taking any other medication including prescription, non-prescription medicines, vitamins, supplements
  • Have a history of liver or kidney problems
  • Have heart disease, heart problems or had a stroke or heart failure
  • Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It is not known whether Uloric will harm your unborn baby
  • Are breastfeeding. It is not known whether Uloric passes into the breast milk. Talk with your doctor about the best way to feed your baby if you are taking Uloric.
